BI: May 2019 Inflation is Under Control

Jakarta, 12/06/2019 MoF - The inflation figures in May 2019 remain under control even it is in conjunction with the month of Ramadan and before Eid Al-Fitr. May 2019 Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation increased from 0.44% (mtm) in April 2019 to 0.68% (mtm) as quoted from the website of Bank Indonesia (BI).

The development of CPI inflation was generally under control and in line with the seasonal pattern during Ramadan and before Eid Al-Fitr which averaged 0.77% in the past five years. With these developments, IHK inflation from 2019 to May 2019 reached 1.48% (ytd), or on an annual basis reached 3.32% (yoy).

The CPI inflation in May 2019 was influenced by the seasonal pattern of volatile food inflation in the month of Ramadan and before Eid Al-Fitr. The volatile food category recorded inflation of 2.18% (mtm) in May 2019, an increase compared to the previous month's inflation of 1.59% (mtm).

According to BI, administered prices inflation also corresponds to its seasonal pattern that tends to increase. The administered prices group recorded inflation of 0.48% (mtm) in May 2019, an increase compared to the previous month's inflation of 0.16% (mtm). On an annual basis, the administered prices group recorded inflation of 3.38% (yoy), higher than the previous month's inflation of 3.17% (yoy).

Core inflation remained under control, although it increased compared to the previous month's level. Core inflation in May 2019 was recorded at 0.27% (mtm), an increase compared to April 2019 inflation of 0.17% (mtm). (nr/ds)
