Industrial Revolution 4.0, Between Threats and Opportunities

Jakarta, 07/05/2018 Ministry of Finance - Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati gave keynote speech in CSIS Global Dialogue and 25th PECC General Meeting at Hotel Borobudur on Monday (07/05). On that occasion, she discussed "Challenges Facing the Global Economy: Technological Disruptions and Sustainable Development-Policymaker Perspective".

"When a country's economy gets bigger and more open, there will be regional and global responsibilities to balance domestic politics with regional and global commitments," said Minister of Finance at Flores Room, Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta.

According to her, global economic growth driven by globalization, exports and imports, inter-state trade are the engines of economic growth that can reduce poverty in various countries, including and especially in Asia. However, the current 4.0 industrial revolution that should be profitable can also be a threat when it comes to the power of capital and workers. In addition, the issue of protectionism in large countries is also able to reduce trade access.

"Industrial 4.0 will benefit the more advanced countries and countries with more capitals. While the workers are threatened by robot and Artificial Intelligence," she explained.

To address this issue, according to the Minister of Finance, policymakers or forums such as this forum can help strengthen the form of multilateral cooperations. Technological changes affect productivity levels but not all countries can pursue but it also cannot be left behind.

"Therefore, such forum become important because it can confirm to create an understanding that the prosperity of the world should be enjoyed by the whole world," she concluded. (mra / ind / nr)
