Large-scale Social Restrictions Selected by the President to Prevent the Expansion of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Bogor, 31/03/2020 Ministry of Finance - Responding to the lockdown option to prevent COVID-19 pandemic getting more wide-spread, President Jokowi chose large-scale social restrictions option or PSBB to be implemented in Indonesia than Civil Emergency.

"We prepare all scenarios from mild, moderate and the worst. We prepare the Civil Emergency when abnormal conditions do occur. So that we prepare and deliver the scenario as one of the equipment. But if the situation is like this, certainly not (applied)," explained the President, live from Bogor Palace on Tuesday (31/03).

This was decided based on the consideration that each country has its own characteristics in terms of area, population, discipline, geographical conditions, character and culture, the economy of the people, their fiscal capabilities, and so on.

"We must learn from the other countries experience, but we cannot just imitate it because all countries have their respective characteristics in terms of area, population, discipline, geographical conditions, character and culture, the economy of the people, their fiscal capabilities, and so on," he explained.

The new PSBB was signed by the President in the form of a Government Regulation (PP) and a Presidential Decree (Keppres) that start to apply.

The President hopes that the Government Regulation, and Presidential Decree provide the same rules for the provinces, regencies so that they can coordinate with the head of the COVID-19 task force in carrying out COVID-19 preventive actions. (nr / aw)
